The Franciscan presence in this region goes back to 1956. The Friars Minor not only come from the three countries that make up the Vice-Province but also from France, Slovenia, Poland, Germany and Spain.
The new Vice Province is made up of 66 friars, mostly local vocations.
Pastoral activity, in both rural and urban areas, makes up the principal commitment but there are also friars engaged in the school, in social work (assistance in prisons), in the formation of catechists, with youth and in professional formation (carpentry, leather and skin work).
The main language used in the countries of the Vice-Province of the Word Incarnate is French but in some areas it is necessary to know one of the local languages, especially for those involved in pastoral activity.
