COMPI Missionary Ev. Moderator's
meeting in the Holy Land

The meeting of the COMPI Moderators for Missionary Evangelisation was held in the Holy Land between the 12th and the 21st of February 2004.
The visits to the Sanctuaries brought to life the outstanding moments of the life of Jesus, especially in Bethlehem, Nazareth and Jerusalem. In each place they met and listened to some witnesses. They spoke about: the problem of living among Muslims, Christians and Jews; the practical life of a Palestinian Catholic community; they also heard the witness of a Jewish citizen and that of the nascent communities of Catholics of a Jewish expression. In Bethlehem: the fortunes and difficulties of the Franciscan and Catholic communities in Bethlehem; the vision of Islam and the hopes for dialogue with the Muslims. The wealth of information received from this meeting fed the reflection of the participants, who reviewed and deepened their concept of missions today.
The meeting then reflected on the missionary projects of the Order and COMPI, seeking new forms of linking between the Provinces and the General Secretariat for Evangelisation.
The Moderator General for the Missions, Br. Vincenzo Brocanelli, present at the meeting, gave some indications for: re-launching and animating the missionary spirit in the Provinces. He particularly indicated how to give a missionary spirit to ordinary evangelisation and stimulated the promotion of meetings with non-believing people and groups or with other religious. He also encouraged the Provinces to give new missionaries opening up to international mission.
The assembly then drew up some concrete proposals concerning the adjustment to the new legislation of the Order. Closer links with the Moderator General for Missions was called for.
Finally, under the presidency of Br. Carmelo Finocchiaro, Minister Provincial delegate of COMPI, the following elections took place: Br. Fulvio Sabia, National Moderator, Br. Massimo Tedoldi, National Vice-Moderator, Br. Ivo Riccadonna, Councillor for the Northern region, Br. Giovanni Pucci, Councillor for the Central Region, and Br. Salvatore Soldatini, Councillor for the Southern Region.
