A Message of Solidarity with the
People of Central America
from the Minister General
on the Earthquake of 13th January.

Dear Brothers

I wish to express my deep sorrow for all the victims of the catastrophe caused by the earthquake last Saturday in Central America that has occasioned landslides, rock falls, destruction of homes and damage to roads, bridges and essential services. My thoughts go out, first of all, to the noble and suffering people of El Salvador where the tragedy has been greatest. I pray to the Lord for all those who died, for their families and for the injured, the disappeared and those who suffered loss.

The Minister Provincial of the Franciscan Province of Central America informed us on Sunday that all the friars and their families are well, although upset by the suffering of the people. While thanking God for the physical well being of the Brothers I exhort them, in this testing moment of being close to those affected, to offer an effective solidarity and a renewed hope in the God of Life. At the same time I pray that international solidarity will come to their aid with urgency and generosity.

United in faith and fraternal communion,

Br. Giacomo Bini, ofm
Minister General
