  • Report 2000 - Section 8

Positive Aspects of JPIC Work in the Order.

    • The calibre of JPIC animator in the provinces is generally excellent.
    • Many JPIC animators are trying to integrate JPIC into their own lives and spirituality.
    • Many provinces have constituted JPIC commissions and do not expect one friar to do the job alone.
    • Young friars in initial formation are becoming more involved in the work of JPIC commissions and taking an interest in the conditions of the poor and excluded of our societies.
    • An increased consciousness of the importance of collaboration between commissions at all levels.
    • Networking with the Franciscan Family, other religious and secular organisations by the JPIC commissions.
    • Recognition by the commissions of the importance of working with formators and young friars in initial formation.
    • Growing emphasis by the commissions on the importance of animation "ad-Intra" of our fraternities in harmony with "ad-extra" involvement with the people and with causes in favour of the excluded.
    • Slow, but progressive consciousness among friars of a Franciscan JPIC dimension of our spirituality.
    • Several provinces have made explicit options at Provincial Chapters for JPIC or some important aspect. This enables the JPIC commission to have a clearer understanding of their mission and role.
    • A small but noticeable number of brothers are pursuing specialisations in studies pertinent to JPIC
    • Publication of the JPIC Resource-Book as a tool to help animators and for the initial and ongoing formation of the brothers.
    • International Congress for all JPIC coordinators in Vossenack, Germany in October 2000.
