Nominated by the Holy See to serve the Church

On March 17th Pope John Paul II nominated the Most Rev. Fr. Alberto Campos Hernández OFM as Apostolic Vicar of San José de Amazonas (Perù) and assigned him the episcopal titular seat of Vico di Augusto. He is 46 years old and was born in Fresnillo in the Diocese of Zacatecas (Mexico) on June 5th 1951. He joined the Order in 1970 and took temporary profession on 23rd August 1971 and solemn profession on 21st April 1979. Ordination to the priesthood followed on August 2nd of the same year. He served in the Prelatura di "Jesús María" (El Nayar, Mexico, 1979-1987), was master of Novices (1987-1990) and Provincial Definitor (1990-1993). Since November 1994 he was a missionary in Uganda first in the diocese of Kabale and actually was superior of the franciscan fraternity in the parish of Rushooka in the diocese of Mbarara in Uganda.
The Most Rev. Fr. Stanislas Lukumwena OFM has been nominated as bishop of Kole (Democratic Republic of Congo). Fr. Stanislas was Minister Provincial since 1994 of the Province of St. Benedict the African in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Fr. Stanislas was born in Tshikapa (Democratic Republic of Congo) on July 24th 1949. He received his initial formation in his region while he obtained his degrees in Spiritual Theology from the Antonianum in Rome. He joined the Order in 1971, and on the 24th September 1972 took temporary vows. He took solemn profession on August 27th 1978 and was ordained in Rome on March 31st 1979. After his ordination he served as superior of the Franciscans in Kasai (1983-1985), provincial vicar for Zaire (1985-1988), general secretary of ASUMA (Association of the Major Superiors of Zaire); director of the Institute of Spirituality for religious.
The Holy Father nominated Fr. Diamantino Prata de Carvalho OFM as bishop of Campanha, Brasil. Fr. Diamantina is member of the Province of the Immaculate Conception, Brasil. He was born on November 20th 1940 in Manteigas, in the diocese of Guarda (Portugal) from where he emigrated to Brasil. He studied in the seminary for missionary vocations in Garnstock (Belgium) and later on proceeded with his philosophy and theology studies at the Catholic University of Petropolis (Brasil). After his ordination he specialised in Communication Science at the SPICS (PAoline) in Rome. He was ordained in 1972 at Icarai. He was professor at the Franciscan Seminary of Agudos in Sao Paolo (1972- 1975). Served also as parish priest at Ipanema (Rio de Janero) and Guardian of the friary at the same town (1978-1982). Later on he was guardian and rector of the Sanctuary at Vila Velha (1982-1986), assistant pastor at Curitiba (1986-1989) and guardian and parish priest of São Lourenço in the diocese of Campanha (1992-1997) where he was also member of the presbyterial and pastoral councils.
  • Pope John Paul II has nominated Mons. Angelo Massafra OFM, bishop of Rrëshen and Lezhe, as the new Archbishop of Scutari in Albania.

  • Mons. Diogo Reesink OFM was nominated by the Holy Father as bishop of Teófilo Otoni in Brasil. He is from the Brasilian province of the Holy Cross and actually was bishop of Almenara.

  • The Rev. Fr. David Jagger OFM, of the Custody of the Holy Land was nominated as Pontifical counsellor for the interpretation of legislative texts.
