  • The beginning of a ne fraternity at Brussels

On the day of the canonisation of the Franciscan martyrs of China (1st October 2000), the Minister General, Br. Giacomo Bini, presided over a ceremony of Missionary sending during which he "sent out as missionaries" a number of friars. A simple but very suggestive liturgy which was held at St. Mary of Aracoeli in Rome together with the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary.

Among the group of friars who received the Missionary Cross there were also the members of he new fraternity of Brussels set up for animating and forming brothers for the Order's missionary ventures in all Continents. This was thus the beginning of this new international reality of the Order made up of five friars: Br. Vincenzo Brocanelli (Italy), Br. Basilio de Resende (Brasil), Br. Steve Suding (USA), Br. Francisco J. Aceves (Mexico) and Br. Agnello Jacquemin (Belgium). These five new friars held various meetings at the General Curia with the Minister General and the Provincial Minister of the Province of the "Trois Compagnons", Br. Mathieu Smolders. This morning the new fraternity went out to Brussels where it will be residing at the "Chant d'Oiseaux" friary. This fraternity will depend on the General Minister (this project was proposed last year) and will keep strict contact and collaboration with the General Curia through the Secretary for Missionary Evangelisation Br. Nicolas Zumalde and the General Definitor for Africa, Br. Peter Williams who accompanied the new fraternity to their new residence at Brussels.
