The provincial council welcomed the statement issued by the minister general and his council of the Order of Friars Minor calling for a peaceful resolution to the present crisis in Iraq.

The provincial minister, Fr. John Felice, O.F.M., instructed that this statement be sent immediately to all the friars of the province.

The provincial council saw a clear connection between this latest call for peace and the abiding direction of the Order's General Constitutions, Article 69:2, which states that the friars "should speak out courageously against the arms race and every kind of warlike activity as a most serious curse on the world and the gravest injury to the poor."
