"The saints have always been the source and origin of renewal in the most difficult circumstances all through Church history" (quoted in VC 35), also applies fo our Fraternity.

Canonizations
* 10 June 1997 (in Krosno, Poland): John of Dukla (+1484), professed priest.
* 29 November 1999 (Rome): Thomas of Cori (+1729), professed priest.
* 1 October 2000 (Rome): 30 Franciscan Martyrs of China. The group consisted of 9 Friars Minor, including 3 bishops; 7 Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. 11 members of the Secular Franciscan Order and 3 lay faithful.
* 19 May 2002 (Rome): Humilis of Bisignano (+1637), professed religious.
* 30 July 2002 (Guatemala): Brother Pedro de San JosÈ Betancur (+1667), member of the SFO and founder of the Brothers and Sisters of Bethlehem.

* 21 June 1998 (Vienna): M. Restituta Kafka (+1943), professed religious of the Institute of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, Martyr.

* 14 April 2002 (Rome): Maria del Transito Cabanillas (+1885), virgin, Founder of the Congregation of the Franciscan Missionary Tertiaries of Argentina.

between 1997 and 2003 30 'positiones' were completed and officially submitted to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints; 21 of these were "super vita et virtutibus" and the remaining 9 "super miraculo". Many of these have already been processed and have led to the beatification or canonization of the Venerable of Blessed to whose intercession the miracles were attributed.

At the present time the Postulation Office is attending to 189 causes of beatification or canonization (excluding some old causes "quae silent"), divided thus: Friars Minor: 81; Poor Clares: 13; Conceptionists: 4; Franciscan sisters: 34; Secular Franciscans: 22; causes external to the Order: 35.
