Visit to the formation House in Buenos Aires
On Thursday May 30, 2013, the Secretary General for Formation and Studies, Br. Vidal Rodríguez López, OFM, visited the Friary of St. Antony of Padua in Buenos Aires (Argentina), which is a house of formation for Simply Professed Friars of the Argentine Provinces of the Assumption and St. Michael, as well as the Custody of Br. Luis de Bolaños of Paraguay. All three entities are walking towards unification.

On Sunday, May 26, our Church of Santa Maria Mediatrix renewed the rite of the missionary mandate to two brothers, Radoslaw Kepczynski and Natake Fiumanò. The former belongs to the Province of our Lady of the Angels in Poland and will depart as a missionary in Cameroon, where a new presence of the Order is emerging, while the latter is of the Province of St. Charles Borromeo in Milan, Italy, and will serve the Custody of Morocco.

On the 23rd May at 7am, Br. Michael Perry concelebrated his first Holy Mass as Minister General. In his homily he spoke about the book of Sirach and how the Friars Minors do not have to rely on any other strength other then that of the Spirit of God. He continued to say that in today’s world young people are hungry for a meaningful life; the elderly are thirsty for someone to give them new spaces in life. The poor and marginalized are eager to be recognized in their human dignity, and we, friars, always need a shared and fraternal witness of God’s mercy.

Br. Michael Anthony Perry has been elected as Minister General of the Franciscan Order ‘ad complendum sexennium’. Born in Indianapolis (USA) in 1954, Br. Michael was serving as Vicar General of the Order. He was Minister Provincial of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Province (USA). He served his Province in Theological Formation, Post-Novitiate Formation, International JPIC work and for ten years he worked in the Missions (Democratic Republic of Congo). He served also with the Catholic Relief Services and in the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
