Franciscan Family at WYD – Madrid 2011
The XXVI World Youth Day was celebrated from August 16-21, 2011, in the city of Madrid, Spain with the theme Rooted and Grounded in Christ, Solid in the Faith (cf. Col 2:7).
The Franciscan family was present at World Youth Day with a unique program offered to all participants of World Youth Day. This program of the Franciscan family took place in the afternoon from August 16-19, 2011, in the so-called “Franciscan Village.” The “Franciscan Village” was “set up” around the church of Saint Francis the Great in Madrid; it was a space for meeting and sharing, where many young people can meet, learn, and share their experiences through various activities. In the “Franciscan Village” there was also a permanent “stand area” where the Franciscans were able to offer a variety of information about their identity, mission, and activities. Also, three important moments were part of the program of the Franciscan family, that is:
- Meeting with the Ministers General in the afternoon of Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
- “Festival of Joy” – On the evening of Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
- Franciscan Prayer – On the evening of Thursday, August 18, 2011.
