Christmas: journeying toward the center
It’s Christmas! “The feast of feasts” for Francis (cf. 2 Cel 199), because it’s the great day of God’s gift to humanity, i.e., the gift of his Son. Today the prophecy of Isaiah is fully fulfilled when he said, “Unto us a child is born; a son is given to us” (Is 9, 5).It’s Christmas! The feast of life! In the “Child of Bethlehem” – as our Father Francis loved to call him – the Father of mercies has given us life and life abundantly. It’s Christmas! The feast of God’s eternal youth and of those who welcome him in the humble signs of a newborn baby wrapped in swaddling cloths (cf. Lk 2, 7). It’s Christmas! The Most High and Almighty reveals himself as Emmanuel, God with us. Since then, humanity can no longer be called abandoned.
