The Foundation of St. Francis in Russia and is preparing to celebrate the Annual Assembly in St. Petersburg at the end of April. In preparation for this important event, the Minister General has sent two delegates to support the Board of the Foundation and do all the analysis and verification of the conditions in which the three fraternities in Russia and the other two in Kazakhstan are living, because ‘there are some difficulties’, even of personnel. The Minister General will participate in the Assembly to give a new impetus to the presence of the Friars Minor in those countries where the small Catholic communities are being reorganized. Currently 20 Friars Minor live and work in the Foundation serving 7 parishes, running a school in Novosibirsk, a center for disabled people and an acupuncture clinic in Almaty, a center for the elderly and homeless in Ussurisk, collaborate with a center for street children in St. Petersburg and another small center for handicapped people at Taldikurgan. For the “Implantatio Ordinis”, there are also three young native Friars in the Fraternity of St. Petersburg but there is still a lot to be done requiring new energy.
