The Pope nominates Br. José de Jesús González bishop of Jesús María (Mexico)
The Pope has appointed Bishop Prelate of Jesús María (Mexico) the Rev. Father José de Jesús González Hernández, OFM, till now Rector and Parish Priest of the Cathedral Church of Inhambane (Mozambique).
The Rev. Father José de Jesús González Hernández, OFM, was born December 25, 1964 at Etzatlán, State of Jalisco (Mexico). After his primary and secondary education and Postulancy with the Franciscan Province of “San Francisco y Santiago”, he studied philosophy at the seminary in Zapopan and theology at the Franciscan International Seminary in Jerusalem. He made his solemn profession and was ordained priest on 24 June 1994 in Jerusalem. From 1994 to 1997, was Pastor of the Mission Huazamota in the State of Durango, from 1997 to 2000, Guardian and pastor of the Mission “Santa María, in the State of Jalisco, where he was Director of the College for Indigenous children. From 2000 to 2005 lived abroad: in the Holy Land, as confessor and pilgrims’ guide during the Jubilee Year of 2000; in Sweden, for three years as Guardian and Catholic parish priest of the Mission for Hispanics’ in Brussels (Belgium) in the International Franciscan Community, in preparation for the mission in Africa. From 2006 to the present: in Mozambique, as rector and pastor of the Cathedral Church of Inhambane.
The Holy Father Benedict XVI accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Prelature of Jesús María (Mexico), presented by HE Bishop José Antonio Sánchez Pérez, OFM, in accordance with can. 401 § 2 of the Code of Canon Law.
