The General Secretariat for the Missions and Evangelisation animates the vocation of all Friars for the “raison d’etre of the Order”: the Evangelisation mission. It is its duty to promote the special vocations for the “ad gentes” mission. It promotes and supports all forms of Evangelisation and promotes international collaboration between the Conferences of Provincial Ministers.
The revised text of the document, Ite nuntiate, is now available for download. Translations in other languages will be published soon.

On 18 December 2016, the Franciscan JPIC of Pakistan, in collaboration with Kawish Resource Centre and the OFM Special Commission for Dialogue with Islam, organized an “Interfaith Celebration of Eid e Milad ul Nabi and Christmas”.
Fr. Jamil Albert, OFM, a member of the OFM Special Commission for Dialogue, welcomed all guests and noted how great a joy it was for the brothers that their Muslim guests recited their evening prayers in the brothers’ chapel. It was a true sign of the interfaith harmony that this celebration of Milad ul Nabi and Christmas was organized to express. (more…)
Br. John Wong, Custos of the Custody of St. Anthony (Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei), was privileged to be the only Catholic religious and priest at a recent International Monastic Retreat outside of Bangkok, engaging in dialogue with 350 Buddhist monks and nuns from different traditions and nationalities. Br. John attended at the invitation of a Buddhist community in Thai Plum Village, and with the blessing of the Minister General Michael Perry. (more…)

The Order’s Special Commission for Dialogue with Islam gathered at the General Curia from 21-25 November 2016. The Commission met to establish its agenda of activities and projects for the present sexennium, chief among which will be the preparation of diverse, multilingual materials to assist the Order and its ecumenical and interfaith friends in commemorating the eighth centenary of the meeting between St. Francis and Sultan Malik al-Kamil in 1219.
Who are we today?
Currently (after the departure of Br. Ariel Amato, called to perform the service of Provincial Definitor in Argentina) the Community of Palestrina (Rome, Italy) is composed of 5 brothers, all Italians, of which 4 are incardinated to the Foundation (Jacopo Pozzerle, Paul Iorio, Arturo Milici, Maurizio Pagliari) and 1 with annual obedience from his Provincial Minister (Giuseppe Frasca of the Roman Province). This summer, after a long process of discernment, another house of our Fraternity was founded in Croatia (Istria), composed of 3 Croatian friars (Drago Vujevic, Marinko Klaic, Josip Vlasic). (more…)
The Theological Institute of Petropolis (Brazil), under the mandate from UCLAF is organizing an Ongoing Formation Course in Evangelization from 10 February to 31 October 2017. Graduates of Theology and Religious Studies, members of the Franciscan Family and those interested or engaged in Evangelization are all invited to participate. (more…)
The course for them missionaries Franciscans of the first order (Conventual, Capuchin and OFM) began in Brussels on the 6th day of September 2016. There are 11 missionaries preparing to go to missions ad gentes. The course is directed by two animators: a Conventual Friar and a Capuchin Friar, who will accompany to the missionaries in their formation process. The missionary environment and the joy of getting to know each other has been great in the international community of Brussels. (more…)
