Br Vicente Paulo do Nascimento new Minister of the Province of the Holy Cross

First Province in Brazil to elect a lay brother for this service

Br Vicente Paulo do Nascimento, 53 years old, was elected Minister Provincial of the Holy Cross Province, at Minas Gerais, on the evening of Thursday, October 17.

With the confirmation of the Dicastery for Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life, at Rome, on the morning of Friday, October 18, Br Vicente Paulo is the first lay brother of the Order of Friars Minor to assume the office of Minister Provincial in Brazil. He is also a pioneer of the Conference of the Friars Minor of Brazil and Southern Cone, which covers, in addition to Brazil, also Argentina, Chile and Paraguay.

Br Vicente Paulo do Nascimento was born on July 29, 1971, at Governador Valadres, MG, Brasile.  He entered the novitiate of the Order of Friars Minor on February 4, 1994, made his first profession on January 21, 1995, and his solemn profession on February 2, 2000.  He graduated in Philosophy and Theology from the Instituto  Santo Tomás de Aquino (ISTA), Belo Horizonte, MG. 

He has a long experience in Initial Formation, having been Master of postulants, of the Temporary Professed for more than ten years, and Secretary for Formation and Studies. He was currently holding the office of Provincial Definitor, for the fourth time, and Moderator of Ongoing Formation.  He was a missionary in the Amazon, at Roraima, and Visitator of the Custody of San Benedetto d’Amazzonia.
