OFS, National Elective Chapter in Rwanda

The Secular Franciscan Fraternity of Rwanda celebrated its National Elective Chapter on 31 January 2026

At the conclusion of this Chapter, a National Council of the Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) in Rwanda was duly constituted for a three-year mandate. Dr. Valens Hafashimana, the outgoing National Minister, was re-elected for a second term and also continues to serve as an International Councillor.

The other elected members of the National Council are: Kayonga Edouard, Vice-Minister; Jean de Dieu Hakizimana, Secretary; Grégoire Nduwayezu, Formation Coordinator; Germaine Mukamana, Treasurer; and Alexis Habimana, Animator of the Franciscan Youth (JEFRA).

The National Council is assisted by the National Spiritual Assistants: Br. Kizito Ngomanzungu, OFM, for the OFS, and Br. Emmanuel Bizimana, OFM, for the Franciscan Children and Youth (JUFRA).

The Chapter was honored by the presence of international bodies of the Order: the Minister General of the OFS, represented by Ange Gabriel, National Minister of Chad, and the Conference of Spiritual Assistants (CAS), represented by Br. Suva Tomas Ginga Panzo, OFMCap.

Finally, the Secular Franciscan Fraternity of Rwanda expresses its deep gratitude for the spiritual and material support offered to OFS Rwanda throughout the entire period of the Chapter, from 29 January to 2 February 2026. May this support contribute to the fruitfulness of the mission and to the flourishing of the Franciscan charism in Rwanda.
