Today Pope Benedict XVI appointed as Archbishop of Quito (Ecuador) H.E. Bishop Fausto Gabriel Trávez Trávez, OFM, so far Bishop of Babahoyo. Fausto Gabriel Trávez Trávez, OFM, was born in Toacazo, in the Diocese of Latacunga, on 18 March 1941. He studied in his own country and in Colombia, at the University of San Bonaventura, Bogotá, where he completed philosophy. He made his solemn profession on 15 October 1965 and was ordained priest on 12 December 1970. 

He was in charge of “The Franciscan Youth Movement”, founded by him in Quito in 1969; Definitor Provincial; Master of the temporary professed; Guardian; Pastor of a parish in the Diocese of Ambato; the Founder of “The Franciscan Missionaries to Youth”; Minister Provincial; President of the “Union of Latin-American Franciscan Conferences” and of the “Franciscan Bolivarian Conference”. Appointed Titular Bishop of Sulletto and Apostolic Vicar of Zamora (Ecuador) on 14 January 2003, was ordinained bishop on 15 March and appointed Bishop of Babahoyo on 27 March 2008.
