“The General Office for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC) at the Curia of the Friars Minor assists the Minister General and his Definitorium by animating and coordinating all that which has to do with Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation, in conformity with the General Constitutions, the General Statutes, and the decisions of General Chapters and Plenary Councils of the Order” (ppSS, Art. 1).
22-29 May 2016 – 25 friars from COMPI, COTAF, the NORTH SLAVIC Conference, CONFRES and a delegate General of the Curia met in Verona. They shared their experiences as JPIC delegates of their countries and together they developed a reflection on the issue of immigration as a personal, social and religious reality. They are working to improve awareness and to propose concrete solutions to pastoral for our evangelization efforts as Friars Minor. (more…)

Collaboration for the Earthquake in Ecuador!

May the Lord give you peace!
Last 16th April, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale struck the Province of Manabil in Ecuador, leaving numerous dead and many wounded. The Order immediately felt a special concern and solicitude for the brothers and sisters in Ecuador, expressing its solidarity by commencing prayers for the whole people of Ecuador.
Now we wish to take a further step in solidarity; we invite you to collaborate with the solidarity project begun by the Franciscan friars who are present in Ecuador. The first action taken was for immediate help through the collection of primary goods thanks to the Radio, “Francisco Stereo” and “Gesù del Gran Poder”, advancing the campaign to collect assistance in the historical Plaza San Francisco in Quito. The International Board of Directors of Franciscans International (FI) held its semi-annual meeting at the Geneva office of FI from April 22-25, 2016.
Bo. Joe Rozansky, OFM, was elected as the new President of the Board. In September 2015, he finished up ten years in Rome as the director of the OFM Office of Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC). Joe succeeds Doug Clorey, the previous representative of the the Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) on the Board, who just completed his four-year term as President of the Board. (more…)
“The international course of Justice, Peace and Integrity of the Creation is being held for the tenth year in a row at the Pontifical University Antonianum of Rome’.
The course began on Tuesday April 5, with this year’s motto: humanity and care for our common home. It is organized by the JPIC Office of the general Curia in conjunction with the Chair of JPIC of the PUA’s Faculty of theology. This year, the course has as its central theme JPIC values in light of Pope Francisco’s Encyclical Laudato si’. (more…)
On 28 March 2016, Franciscan Friars along with Franciscan Sisters and the Christian and Muslim Communities organized a prayer service at Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park, Lahore in Pakistan where 90 people were killed and at least 300 were injured in a suicide blast the previous evening, on Easter Sunday. Most of the victims of this horrendous act were Christian women and children who were celebrating Easter with their families in the park. Franciscan Friars, Jamil Albert and Victor Sawera, were at the spot after the bombing to assist the injured and console the grieving families. (more…)

Brazilian Franciscan lay brothers from the various branches of the Family (OFM, OFMConv, OFMCap and TOR) met from September 4-7 at Saint Anthony Seminary in Agudos, São Paulo, to celebrate fraternally and reflect on the lay dimension of our Franciscan vocation. The meeting can be called historic because it is the first such meeting held in Brazil. Eighty friars from fifteen different states participated. The theme for the assembly was: the lay dimension of the Franciscan friar: history, spirituality, perspectives. (more…)

Twenty-three friars and four lay people met in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, from September 21 to 27, for the IV JPIC Continental Meeting of the Americas. We were fraternally welcomed by the host provinces, Santa Fe and San Pablo, who shared their lives as Friars Minor in this beautiful country. (more…)
The Africa Continental Meeting for JPIC was held at Portiuncula Center in Nairobi, Kenya from August 28 to September 3, 2014. Animators from 5 of 11 African entities were present: Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, Saint Francis Province of East Africa and Morocco; the animator of the Holy Land was also present (he participates with the animators of Africa for JPIC activities). The meeting of the JPIC International Council (ICJPIC) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, 19-26 June, 2014. Delegates included one representative from each of the thirteen OFM conferences, the JPIC International Animation Committee, and the two friars who work in the Rome JPIC Office. ICJPIC delegates were invited to participate in the last day of the Asia/Oceania continental meeting; the day consisted in a series of presentations on the reality of Asia and Indonesia, and a dialogue with representatives of Franciscans International. From 12 to 17 June 2014 the Asia Continental Meeting was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, with the participation of JPIC animators of the two Conferences, EAC and SAAO, and the two friars from the JPIC Office in Rome, Joe Rozansky and Fabio Lamour. Entities present at the meeting were: from EAC: Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Philippines, Taiwan. From SAAO: Australia, East Timor, India, Indonesia, Thailand and West Papua. (more…)

It is organized by the Chair of JPIC at the University and the General Office for JPIC at the Curia. The title for this year’s course is The Excluded and Human Rights: “Toward a Church for the Poor”. General Minister Michael Perry and JPIC director Joe Rozansky traveled to Geneva on March 18-19 to attend the 25th anniversary celebration of Franciscans International, the NGO of the Franciscan Family at the United Nations. Brother Joe spoke briefly at a reception on the evening of the 18th, and Brother Michael participated in a Round Table discussion on Extreme Poverty on the afternoon of the 19th. This year is the 35th anniversary of the naming of Saint Francis as Patron of Ecology. Romans VI (the group of JPIC animators for the Franciscan Family) has considered how best to celebrate this event, especially in the context of the worldwide environmental crisis.
