A new Via Crucis is blessed as a sign of the VIII Franciscan Centenary

On the occasion of the Feast of the Stigmata of St. Francis, on the 17th September, 2026, at the Franciscan friary of Gorica in Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the new outdoor Via Crucis, created in the year of the eighth centenary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi (1226-2026), was blessed. 

After Mass at the friary church, the Minister Provincial of the Franciscan Province of the Holy Cross – Bosnia Srebrena, Br. Zdravko Dadić, OFM, blessed the new Way of the Cross. 

At the beginning of the celebration, the Guardian of the convent, Br. Marko Ešegović, OFM, greeted those present and recalled the spiritual and commemorative significance of the work. 

The Stations, made of concrete and bronze, are the work of academic sculptors Anto Jurkić, Dejan Pranjković and Ilija Skočibušić. Br. Jozo Vrdoljak, OFM, promoted the realisation of the Via Crucis with particular commitment, whilst the friars of Gorica wanted to offer it to the faithful as a permanent sign of the VIII Franciscan Centenary. 

The blessing on the Feast of the Stigmata recalls, in particular, the profound conformation of St. Francis to Christ crucified and invites the faithful to follow in His footsteps the path of discipleship and the Gospel.
